A little progress on the remodel

Since I decided to do the STP with my wife this year, any extra time has been spent  on training for this or recovering from the training.  The outcome of this has meant that almost nothing has gotten done on the remodel.  Over the last few weeks, the time needed to recover from the training has seemed to decrease.  I can now take  a long ride and after resting for a while, do something like mow the lawn or weed the garden, which I hadn’t been able to get to before.

This freeing up of time combined with the long days of summer has meant getting a little bit done on the remodel.  The painting is now to a point where the cabinets could go in.  My son came home from college and we hired him to remove the old carpet and haul it off.   We also had a cabinet installer to come in and get the first part of the cabinets installed.

This means that we have gained back some of the garage making it easier to park the car though the second side if still full.  I took the microwave out of shop, so we picked up a little space there.  So far I haven’t filled the cabinets yet.  Wanted to discuss what should go here instead of just allowing it to be be filled willy-nilly.

We now have to make some decisions on whether to get some custom cabinets made to go under the TV area to hold the electronics like the DVD player.  This would also include some Cherry trim to go around the fireplace.  This is  pre-carpet job.

The supports for the counter top sit on top of carpet, so in order to complete the desk area we will need to pick and get the carpet installed.  Then we can call back the cabinet installer to install the counter and finish the last parts of the cabinets.  He will also be the person building the cabinets and fireplace trim of we decide to go that way.

After months of nothing happening it is great to see a little progress.
