Remodel Progress – its all arrived, now what?

I wish I could focus on the remodel and not be distracted by everything else that I need to get done, especially the job searching.  For the most part, we are moving forward at a fairly constant but slow pace.   This week a lot has happened.
Finished up replacing the new exterior wall.  If you remember the water damage went through the exterior wall behind the washer and dryer.

We gutted the laundry room in June and have now completed the repairs to the outside wall except for the final coat of paint.  On the inside we are still waiting for the upstairs bath to be completed before putting up sheet rock and tiling the floor.  This is where our major hold up is, but more on that later.

My garage is quickly being turned into a warehouse as we have received the new tub for the main bath upstairs and the cabinets for the two upstairs bathrooms, the laundry room and that family room in the basement.

Getting a little concerned about storage.  In order to do any sheet rock work I will have to jockey the new tub around.  The cabinets are where my work table was set up, which has now been moved to the other side of the garage along with all the tile and supplies.  And eventually we will need to move the furniture and stuff out of the family room to somewhere; this will need to happen before the tub goes in.
I have also completed the preparation for the tiling in the master bath.  This included:
  • Gutting the room
  • New sheet rock and perfataping
  • Moving the plumbing back into the wall and installing the new shower fixture.
  • Fixing the hole in the floor around the drain.
  • Installing new sub-floor hardi backer board for the tile.

We have been waiting on stuff to arrive in order before we could do much, now we are finding a hard time getting the right tile guy to lay the tile to get us started

There isn’t a great way to get a picture of this room because it is so small.
We also received the tile for this room this week.  Wendy has picked a great combination of tile, I can’t wait to see it up, though I will have to.

This picture doesn’t do the tile justice, but the combination of the textures and colors is quite nice.  The stones in the floor will give a little personal massage every morning. ;)
Now the difficulties.  Getting a good tile guy in may take until the end of September.  We have been waiting on completing the upstair bathrooms in order to proceed with the basement—wanting to get the bathrooms done and insuring no leaks before sheet rocking the laundry room.
In order to keep the project under control—not taking on too much all at once—we have been putting off proceeding in the family room.  Summer is quickly slipping by without much getting done.
We are now in replan mode, deciding how to move forward while we wait on the tile guy.  It would be nice to have multiple toilets for as long as we can.  And it would be nice to minimize the down stairs disruption because the room is used a lot and it has quite a bit of large furniture that will need to be moved somewhere.
I have started disassembly the bar area and hope to be able to take a load to the dump and then pick up the last cabinet, one that could fit into the Ford, so I have to borrow a friend’s truck to get it and the dump run completed.
So things are happening albeit slow.  The next steps will impinge deeply on our living arrangements.
